Tomato Success

Tomatoes getting too big for the britches

We're having such success with our indeterminate varities of tomatoes, dare I say - too much success!

We have our tomatoes supported in circular cages with 6" spaces. As you can see in the photo, 6" is not enough space for this heirloom variety! This tomato is pushing the limits of "grow where you are planted" and has been engulffing the cage wires.

I will gently remove some of the cage to allow the tomato to grow in peace. But hopefully this is a good omen for the harvest soon to come this summer.

I spent yesterday extending the tomato supports up to 8 feet and topping the tomato plants early because they are growing extensively. With all the rain that Maryland has had this summer, we are set for tomato bounty.

We have plently of tomato plant varietiess still ready for your garden and you can produce in zones 5, 6, and 7 until the end of September or early October.
