Sub Arctic Tomato
Planting Tomatoes in September?
Can you start tomatoes in August, transplant in September, and get tomatoes in October in Maryland?
Our family garden has been producing quite a bit of tomatoes and beans. About a month ago I decided to start some more tomato seeds -- Sub Arctic Plenty and 42 Day varieties. Sub Arctic Plenty is supposed to ripen 40 days after transplant and 42 Day is supposed to produce ripe fruit 40-50 days after transplant. About a week ago I transplanted a bunch of each variety into both 10 gallon and 2 gallon pots, along with some Dinosaur kale and Dwarf Blue Curled kale. We'll see if we get tomatoes before the first frost which normally occurs mid-late October. I'll be moving a few of the tomato plants into one of my heated greenhouses at the first threat of frost.
