Nocturnal Gardening

Is it ever too late in the day to do a little horticulture?

Here at Berwyn Plants, Mike Kelley is often found working in the garden at any hour of the day. If you have everwatched Gilmore Girls, you're familiar with Jackson's sleeping with the zucchinis. Well, Mike isn't exactly sleeping with the plants (though we cannot confirm that it has never happened) but he is working late into the night some nights.

Especially as we head into the warmer months of the year here in Maryland, it becomes more comfortable to be doing the work at night or early morning. To be a successful nocturnal gardener you'll need the following checklist

- charged headlamp (uncharged doesn't help very much)

- understanding or oblivious neighbors and local police, bonus points if you dont have any neighbors

- headphones for entertainment so you don't wake said neighbors

- other lighting (either greenhouse lights, flood lights, or something similar for steady, consistent light)

- nerves of steel (if you're scared of the dark, nocturnal gardening isn't for you)

- a bed for the garden dog

- personal energy source (snacks!)

Good luck night gardening!
